Description

Georgetown County known for being the first European Settlement in North America (circa 1526) by the Spanish, after failing, was later to become the third oldest English settlement in South Carolina (circa 1729). Georgetown County is rich with history, southern charm, legends, and ghost tales.
The first stop in the city of Georgetown includes a visit to the grounds and building of Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church, one of the few original church buildings in South Carolina dating to the colonial period that is still in use today. A guided tour takes you through the city’s historic district filled with colonial, revolutionary, pre-Civil War and Victorian buildings, many of which house unique shops and restaurants. Of the more than 60 antebellum homes in Georgetown, the Kaminski House stands out as one of the most representative of the Georgian style of the era. Built overlooking the Sampit River, the Kaminski House is typical of the Low Country “single house” style of the mid-18th century.  A full tour of the interior building and its grounds are included.
After lunch, your adventure continues onto the banks of the North and South Santee River, Delta and into the homes and communities that flourished in its paths. Visit the house and gardens of Hopsewee Plantation (circa 1746), birthplace of Tom Lynch Jr., signer of the Declaration of Independence. The once thriving rice plantation played a decisive role in both the nation and regions development. The Hampton Plantation (circa 1750) a Georgian styled mansion is next on the agenda. Here the visitor is afforded a view of century-old rice fields, that once stretched as far as the eye can see.
This tour provides you with a collection of legends and stories of fortunes, being changed, at the whim of the rivers flow. Learn how the river dictates even the times of church services. Truly an interesting step back in time to our agriculturally based past.
